Dr. Katharine W. Winograd, ‘15

Dr. Katharine W. Winograd has been the president of Central New Mexico Community College (CNM), the largest community college in New Mexico with more than 26,700 students, since July 2007.
Under her leadership, CNM has made remarkable progress in serving the needs of students, the community and the regional economy. In 2013, CNM won the Student Success Award from the American Association of Community Colleges, largely due to various student support efforts that contributed to significant graduation increases. From the 2008-09 academic year to 2012-13, students graduating from CNM increased 207 percent. CNM ranked 11th among 1,100-plus community colleges in the country in 2012-13 for the total number of associate degrees awarded.
In 2013, Dr. Winograd was named Western Region CEO of the Year by the Association of Community College Trustees, and she received the Spirit of Bipartisanship Award for Excellence in Education Policy from New Mexico First, a non-partisan public policy organization. She is also the co-chair for the Vision Council of Mission: Graduate, a partnership of education, business and civic organizations in central New Mexico devoted to increasing the number of people in central New Mexico with higher education credentials by 60,000 by 2020.
She previously held positions at the University of New Mexico, the University of Louisville and the Kentucky Council on Higher Education. She earned her doctor of education degree in Educational Leadership from the University of New Mexico and her master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Louisville. Dr. Winograd serves on several community boards, including Presbyterian Healthcare Services, the United Way of Central New Mexico and the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce.
