Transforming Criminal and Civil Legal Systems and Reexamining Public and Private Policies and Practices to Support Justice-Involved Families
There are legislative opportunities to guarantee counsel to caregivers in family law proceedings and to ensure access to civil legal aid for fathers and families with low incomes. Ensuring access to legal representation and assistance improves outcomes for children and families and improves the efficiency of the civil legal system. At the same time, public and private sectors have an opportunity to reexamine policies and practices to support justice-involved individuals’ roles as parents and caregivers.
