Stephanie Villafuerte is a longtime public sector leader and systems strategist with more than 35 years of experience leading complex child protection, public policy, and systems reform efforts. Her career has included prosecuting crimes of violence committed against women and children, leading legislative and policy initiatives, directing public agencies and programs, and providing independent oversight of child protection systems.

Most recently, she served as Colorado’s Child Protection Ombudsman, leading efforts focused on accountability, systems improvement, and cross-sector collaboration on behalf of children and families.

Throughout her career, Stephanie became known for her ability to bring clarity to complex and often highly charged issues—helping organizations, multidisciplinary teams, and stakeholders navigate competing perspectives, operational challenges, and systems-level reform efforts. She has led statewide initiatives, facilitated difficult conversations across sectors, and worked closely with leaders and agencies seeking stronger alignment between policy, practice, and outcomes.

Stephanie currently serves as an executive advisor and consultant, drawing on decades of leadership experience to support organizations and leaders working through complex systems, organizational challenges, and periods of transition. Her work focuses on strategic planning, systems improvement, stakeholder alignment, organizational leadership, and helping leaders move difficult work toward practical implementation.

Stephanie’s approach is thoughtful, grounded, and relationship-driven, combining strategic insight with deep operational experience. She is particularly passionate about leadership development and increasingly speaks and advises on topics including authentic leadership, resilience, systems thinking, leadership growth and transition, and the evolving demands of public service leadership. She earned her Juris Doctor from UCLA School of Law and has received numerous state and national recognitions for her leadership, public service, and contributions to systems reform on behalf of children and families.
